Adam Monroe has the power of rapid cellular regeneration, allowing him to heal almost instantly from most injuries. In addition to allowing him to heal from any injury, Adam's power has effectively made him ageless - He is believed to more than 400 years old. It is rumored that in 1671 was known as the famous Takezo Kenzei, which saved Japan from White Beard a militar who wanted to control all Japan. Though he can regenerate from most injuries, being decapitated, or otherwise having his brain destroyed, would permanently kill him. This is similar to how both Claire and Peter's 'un-deaths' required that the objects lodged in their brains be removed first. Angela Petrelli claims that one bullet through the head would be enough.

--UPDATE-- Adam was killed by Arthur Petrelli, who removed his ability. When the ability was removed, Adam's body aged 400 years, and fell apart into dust.
