Gabriel Gray a.k.a. Sylar was born a watchmaker's son and grew up to be a watchmaker. He has the ability to understand how things work, but it also comes with a 'hunger'. Whether it is a hunger to kill, or take a person's powers, or know their secrets is unclear. It is only known that this 'hunger' forced him to kill Brian Davis and later many other special people. Sylar knew Chandra Suresh before he killed him in Chandra's taxi.
Sylar lost every ability he aquired prior to being injected with the Shanti Virus, with the exception of telekinesis. His known abilities include:

Sylar regained all of his powers and then some thanks in part to a chance meeting with Claire Bennet.
It was revealed that Sylar is the biological son of Angela Petrelli and Arthur Petrelli. NOT! The two schemers lied! However, Angela does have information on who Gabriel's real parents are. Noah Bennett has implied to knowing information relating to this as well.
Arthur Petrelli admitted he was not Gabriel's father, before his untimely demise. Arthur also alluded to being related to Gabriel.
Gabriel is believed to have perished in the Hartsdale Primatech facility fire.
