A Congressional candidate from New York, currently employed by the District Attorney. He possesses the ability to fly. He is the biological father of Claire Bennet and the brother of Peter Petrelli.
His wife, Heidi Petrelli, was seriously injured in a car accident.
He is associated with Linderman, having both been threatened by him, and accepting millions of dollars in campaign donations, as well as a promise of political string-pulling on his behalf.

Nathan was a victim of an attempted assassination by his brother Peter Petrelli who had traveled back in time from four years in the future. Nathan was dead but miraculously survived. He is now a senator. He was romantically involved with Tracy Strauss. Now he is heading up a secret government who's sole purpose is to capture people with anomalistic abilities, imprison them, and eventually kill them or remove their abilities from them.

Nathan knows something is fishy. After he found his body. It seems Sylar killed Nathan. Mama Petrelli had Matt Parkman put Nathans mind in Sylars body. Then Matt used his ability of mind control on Sylar to force Sylar into using his new found shape-shifting power to transform himself from Sylar to Nathan. Essentially, Sylar became Nathan, and Matt tried to keep Sylar a prisoner in his own mind. Now Nathan is starting to remember who he was.
