Charlie was a sweet waitress Hiro Nakamura and Ando Masahashi met in Texas. When Hiro began speaking to Charlie in Japanese, she told him she understood him, as she could memorize things at a fast pace and retain the information. Soon, Charlie and Hiro were speaking in fluent Japanese.
Unfortunately, when Charlie went into the back storage room, she was found murdered, with her head sliced open (by Sylar). Hiro was determined to go back in time and save her, but when he went back in time six months prior and began dating Charlie, he learned she was suffering from a brain aneurysm. Still, he made it his mission to protect Charlie, and the two grew closer until one day when Charlie went in to kiss Hiro. He closed his eyes in anticipation of the kiss and found himself transported back to Japan. When he finally made his way back to the diner and Nevada, Ando told him he wasn't able to save Charlie after all. This was the start of Hiro losing his power.
A picture of Charlie, shown to Eden McCain, showed that the top of her skull had been removed, however, her brain appeared to remain intact.
