His wife, Heidi Petrelli, was seriously injured in a car accident.
He is associated with Linderman, having both been threatened by him, and accepting millions of dollars in campaign donations, as well as a promise of political string-pulling on his behalf.

Nathan was a victim of an attempted assassination by his brother Peter Petrelli who had traveled back in time from four years in the future. Nathan was dead but miraculously survived. He is now a senator. He may be romantically involved with Tracy Strauss.
