Stephen Canfield was a prisoner on Level 5, with the ability to generate vortices. He escaped when Elle accidentally shut down the power grid on Level 5.
After escaping, Canfield went to his home to find that his family had left.
Claire Bennett, Noah Bennett and Sylar managed to track him down, but Canfield created a vortex to try to get rid of them, and escaped.
Claire, Noah, and Sylar tracked him down to an amusement park where he was waiting for his wife, and Noah offered to let him go if he would suck Sylar into a vortex. Saying that he "won't be a monster," Canfield created a vortex and entered it.
