[edit] The table
I kept it here so it wouldn't get lost forever. I'm not really sure why it displays at the bottom of the page... (You forgot to close the table. --Psych-Gen 13:48, 5 March 2008 (EST))
- Alternatively one could visit the List of known humans with advanced genes. --Psych-Gen 10:15, 19 April 2008 (EDT)
- Actually The Company decided to move it all here. Thanks for your contribution Slickriptide. --Psych-Gen 11:06, 19 April 2008 (EDT)
[edit] Keep it "in character"
The wiki is owned and operated by Suresh, a fictional character. It should be written "in character" as something that exists in his universe. Naming the characters on the TV show and describing them in detail is something that doesn't really belong.
For one, we're all viewers of the show and know that info already. For another, even though Suresh does know about a couple of the "heroes" (Nathan and Peter, for instance) he wouldn't publicize that knowledge without their consent, if only to protect them from Sylar and others who would fear or use the "heroes".
- I agree. We already know everything. And when it comes to genetics, who cares? If you are that interested in the accuracy of pseudo-science that says people can fly, perhaps a real-world wiki would best suit you.
- I disagree about the pseudo-science speculation. Mohinder is a scientist and therefore would be looking at the scientific explainations. The natural tendency would be to dismiss untestable (and therefore unprovable) speculation as bad science. Granted that most of us probably aren't scientist and that is where the "creative license" come in to bend the laws of nature a bit. It is established in the shows canon, however, that the nature of the change is genetic so departure from that into the realm of magic, deific ability, and alternate universes is moving quite far afield from the show and from what a self-respecting scientist like Mohinder would consider.
Another thing to keep in mind is that there are competing theories about the hero's abilities, Niki/Jessica being a case in point. There's ample evidence that they are, in fact, two seperate people and not simply a case of multiple personaltiy. (Ref: The appearing/disappearing shoulder tatoo.) It's probably best not to get to absolutist about what is actually going on with the heroes and their talents.
- I don't agree that talking about specific characters should be out of bounds. While, in retrospect to some of my original entries to the Anomalous Abilities section, I agree that personally identifiable names shouldn't be used. I think, however, that it would be perfectly in character for a scientist to discuss cases that they have come in contact with or heard of extensively in a nameless or even "the names have been changed to protect the innocent" manner. This kind of speculation and documentation would indeed be almost compulsory for a scientist as driven as Chandra and, to a lesser degree, Mohinder. Furthermore, inaccuracies in speculation (such as the disappearing/reappearing tattoo on Niki/Jessica, would be perfectly in character since there would be gaps in the knowledge of fine details. I would submit that as long as sufficient explaination is given to how the information was obtained in an "in-character" way, then it should be used. (e.g. Medical Examiner's records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act for Claire's "stick-in-the-head" incident)
I agree with this. IMO (your mileage may vary) the key is to make it as "plausible" as possible rather than just reciting things that you'd need an omniscient viewpoint to know about. Case in point - Chandra's notes as to what abilities he expected to find and where he expected to find them - The data he built the map from. That data is still in the Human Genome Project for anyone serious enough to find it. I wouldn't see a problem referencing Chandra's work to support a thesis about people with abilities; but I'd see a problem with giving intimate details about Matt Parkman's powers and his life that only he would know about, as a for instance.
- Agreed to a point. Intimate details should be left out. However reasonable anecdotal and "first hand" information should be allowed. For example there is already evidence that the characters talk amongst themselves when they meet and relay information about others they have met. Much of this discussion takes place off-screen and is only alluded to later. In those cases it would be reasonable to assume that information is floating around to a degree among many of the principle characters including Mohinder. Other information could be researched. For example, maybe a cop where Niki was held blabbed about the bad experience to his wife, who happened to talk about it with a friend who is married to a reporter. Said reporter does some digging among publicly available police reports to confirm some details that prove something "very odd" happened with this suspect. Or maybe the cop himself is driven to explore just what the heck this woman is and stumbles on this site only to leave a wiki entry describing the details of his experience. The posibilities are endless for supplying information here without breaking the "in-character" nature. You just need to use a little creativity.
Definitely. There are plenty of possible sources of information. Hana would certainly have something to contribute if she found Mohinder's wiki. A leak inside of the Company might tell what's going on there. An FBI agent who witnessed the embarassment of Matt and his sidekick at Primatech, who subsequently ran across the wiki. You're right, a little creativity can go a long way.

[edit] Within The ARG
Is this wiki In Game or Out Of Game?
Since it would appear that this wiki is meant to be In Game, by which I mean this wiki is supposed to be owned by Mohinder Suresh so that people can share their theories about what causes the super powers, any Out Of Game references should be excluded.
Any reference to the TV show should be considered Out Of Game. Think of it this way, If Mohinder were to actually read this page he wouldn't understand it. Stating which episode and chapter a characters ability has been used in is pointless.
Also, listing the abilities that characters on the show have should also be considered out of game seeing as Mohinder himself doesn't know what abilities they possess let alone small details of their lives.
[edit] Structure of page
I wonder if sylar has cellular regeneration because Matt shot him and he fell off of the Claire's school, yet he somehow recovered from both incedents later, unharmed and having no scars or bruises. And if he does have it, then why is he hunting Claire? Because he wants to be the only one with powers, he is obssevive compulsive and needs to finish what he started, or is he simply a psychopathic killer? (posted by Sparky)
- It would be plausible that Sylar used telekinesis in order to slow his fall, or perhaps manipulating Peters fall so that he would land on top of him.
I separated the list of potential abilities from this page, since it was getting long and bulky. Do we want to list characters with AA's here, or should that go elsewhere, too? Sinope 22:53, 6 March 2007 (EST)
What are AA's Alternate Abilities?
I think we should indicate who is deceased and who is still alive in the table.
- Done.Sheba98 18:53, 3 April 2008 (EDT)
I think we should remove the table all together. Keeping it poses a serious risk to those still living upon it.
On the question about Sylar: I think he most likely used his telekinetic ability to "shield" himself from damage in both cases. -- Mooman_FL

[edit] The Aftermath
The aftermath of the whole Sylar fiasco left "The Company" with a new victim, Peter Petrelli, yet despite "The Company's" efforts, Adam Monroe a.k.a Kensei did what he does best: lie and live even though Hiro blew him up. But, one factor Adam forgot to add in to his whole "wipe the planet clean" plan was that Peter has a brother, Nathan Petrelli and that Nathan can stop Adam along with Hiro.
But popular to contrary belief Adam isn't all that powerful, cunning yes but, powerful no, as we see his weapon of choice(mine as well) a long sword Katina, (meaning he has only one power, regeneration.) So if you look at the back ground of Adam, as I just stated, you will see that people like him and Claire Bennet will always and forever rely on people with higher powers, such as Peter's or Niki's. If this is true, what is the main point of fearing Adam?
Is the fact that Adam won't die unless you do one of 6 things which are: 1)shoot him in the head; 2)do a Sylar and remove the brain; 3) decapitate him; 4)inject with the 581 virus; 5)put Adam in molten magma(dangerous yes but the only combination of the Heroes who could possibly do that tag team of Hiro and Nathan); or 6) to put Adam into a nuclear reactor and leave him there until nothing remains of him (and I mean NOTHING)?
The proof of what I say is in the table and it's just a little piece of data we have now, but it's all we need to kill Adam permanently.
